Patent number 627,687 Jason Draper created this mitt, this mitt resembled a pillow and was able to be worn with only one hand compared to the Butts mitt. |
Young Mitt (1920) - R. H. Young
Patent number 1,362,280 This mitt invented by Robert Young had a cushion of air that helped the catcher catch the ball when it was thrown to him. |
Latina Mitt (1925) - B. H. Latina
Patent number 1,562,176 Harry “Bud” Latina, created a better mitt. This mitt design used finger loops. This mitt became the standard for more than forty years. |
Campanis Mitt (1975) - Al Campinis
Patent 3,898,696 This glove was one of the first gloves to have a hinge in it. This hinge allowed the catcher to close the mitt to catch the ball instead of having to use two hands. This mitt also had a fluorescent orange piece around the outside of the mitt to help the pitcher have a target to throw to. |
